"The first step to getting the things you want out of life is this: Decide what you want."
Ben Stein
There is a great scene in "Good Will Hunting" where Robin Williams asks the young genius Matt Damon what he wants to be. Damon goes on to make a joke about being a shepherd out in a field but when Williams presses he has on idea what to say. In the movie Damon has the ability to be basically anything he wants to be but he could not decide on even one thing to try. Many times people who are very talented at many different things have problems deciding on one thing to concentrate on and are always second guessing themselves if they do, wondering if they should have chosen something else. In an earlier post I talked about looking at your role models or heroes in history to try to find where your passions lie. It can be very difficult deciding what to do with the rest of your life but always remember that there is always time to change the path you are on and try something new. On the other hand, it is always best to really concentrate on one thing and try to do it everyday to improve you skills related to that subject. There is ample evidence that suggests it takes around 10,000 hours to really master something, but a little bit at a time can add up in the long-run. Also, you would be surprised how much different subjects can overlap so if you develop skills in one area it is likely to help you if you decide to change paths down the road. --Buzzy
