FCS Playoffs Update

Two local FCS(formerly division 1AA) football teams had big wins over the weekend. Starting off on Friday night, The University of Delaware took down New Hampshire, 16-3. I have always been a big Blue Hen fan as my father played football there, so this win started off my weekend right. Penn State transfer quarterback Pat Devlin led the Blue Hens to victory, tossing a touchdown to Conestoga product Nijha White. I really think Devlin will be an impact player on the next level. He was a 5star recruit out of high school and chose Penn State after originally committing to Miami. Its tough to argue that he should have started over Daryll Clark in Happy Valley, but I think his decision to transfer will only help him in the long run. I was there in Columbus when he led then ranked 4th overall Penn State to an upset over the Buckeyes after Clark was injured. The kid has an NFL arm and makes good decisions with the football, and I like the Hens to make it to the championship game.

Now lets head to the Main Line, where the Villanova Wildcats are making another strong push for the FCS title. Yesterday they went on the road and took down #1 seed Appalachian State with a convincing 42-24 win. It would be an understatement to say Nova is happy to have back Senior Matt Szczur, who did it all for the Wildcats, rushing for 3 TD's, catching one, as well as tossing another. This kid is a flat out stud who like Devlin could wind up in the NFL next year, if he doesn't opt for a career in pro baseball(He was a 5th round draft choice of the Chicago Cubs) The Cats seem to be peaking at the right time again, and I believe they too will take care of business next week and reach the championship game. A local small college football fan like me can only hope both teams win as that would mean another meeting between these two rivals which always seems to be a classic. Earlier in the season Villanova took down then ranked #1 Delaware on the road in overtime, a game Villanova needed to win just to make the playoffs. Check back next week to see how both teams fare in thier semi-final matchups!

  2. Chris Whitney is number 40 out of 117 on the nfl scout list best qb ratings.
Devlin is in the top ten.
And Ninja White(i called him that when we played in allstar game together)could possibly snake in the NFL two or three years down the line depending on his situation at UD
